Congresswoman Spartz Continues Advocacy for Hoosier Seniors

Congresswoman Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) saw firsthand some of the affordable housing options available to Hoosier seniors during her tour of AHEPA Affordable Housing Management Company. During her visit, Rep. Spartz met with AMC President and CEO Steve Beck and other members of the management team to discuss the company's mission to provide safe, dignified, and independent affordable housing for vulnerable elderly and disabled populations on a limited income.

"We had a productive conversation about the need for more affordable housing for seniors and the challenges the sector faces," said Rep Spartz. "It is an important issue that we need to take a serious look at as well as making improvements in long-term care options. I'm focused on supporting and empowering our seniors to live their best life."

The visit comes one week after Congresswoman Spartz's bill to address elder abuse and fraud passed out of the House Judiciary Committee. The Elder Abuse Protection Act, introduced with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-Tex.) seeks to make the Elder Justice Initiative at the Department of Justice permanent, ensuring federal resources flow to protecting elderly Americans from financial fraud and abuse. The Elder Abuse Protection Act is currently awaiting a vote in the House.

AHEPA manages four affordable independent senior living communities (187 units) in the district, and 13 total in Indiana (637 units), that are federally financed under the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 202 program.

In addition, AHEPA manages four affordable-assisted living communities with 532 housing units in Indiana.
